Dr. Sudarshan is the Chairman of Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs (CCSCH) hosted by India under UN joint FAOWHO food standards programme since 2014. He is a Scientist with thirty-two years of experience in the field of research, production, development and marketing of spices especially cardamom (small and large), pepper and vanilla. Dr. Sudarshan has worked in the Regional Station of Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Donigal, Sakleshpur in the position of Senior Scientist for 25 years. He had played a key role in the release of one variety of cardamom for cultivation in Karnataka. He has worked as Head of Indian Cardamom Research Institute, the research wing of Spices Board. Dr. Sudarshan has also worked as Director of Marketing and Finance in Spices Board. Dr. Sudarshan also played an important role in the establishment of a Collaborative Training Centre for Food Safety and Supply chain Management of Spices and Botanical ingredients with CII-FACE and Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), Maryland USA. He was a Member of the Research Advisory Committee of Indian Institute for Spices Research (ICAR), Calicut from 2013-2015. He has successfully conducted six sessions of the CCSCH which elaborated world-wide standards for eight Spices and three Culinary Herbs so far.
